Hi I’m Alex from iL

Rents have been increasing for years - and not just the rent for the landlord, which fills the pockets of real estate companies

Heating costs are also continuing to increase, which is how the energy companies are lining their pockets. I don’t know about you, but many of my neighbors are really dreading their next utility bill

And it’s not just rents that are increasing, global warming is also increasing, the climate crisisis escalating.

I find it scary how hot it’s been in recent summers, how often you hear about floods and storms in the news now, it really worries me

The fact that rents and heating costs and global warming are increasing worries us all!

But that are not the only things that are rising. The picture is not complete, we have to add something else: At the same time, the profits of real estate and energy companies are increasing - and that doesn’t worry me, it makes me really angry

because it all goes together, rents and heating costs and global warming are rising, because the profits of the corporations are rising, because politicians only care about increasing profits, that makes me really angry!

I’m here today with this anger because the very people who are lining their pockets with the fact that our cities are falling apart, that we can no longer afford our homes, that the climate crisis is escalating these are the very people who are meeting over there in the luxury Adlon Hotel to keep raking in the money and keep the gas price spiral going.

300,000 Berliners can almost no longer afford their heating costs!

And at a time like this, a “green” state secretary meets with the bosses of the gascompanies? They’re talking about how they can keep the gas price spiral going, how they can keep destroying our cities and our planet

I want to make one thing very clear to them: this is not your planet, these are not your homes, not your cities!

We have to stop this before it’s too late. Natural gas is becoming more and more expensive and is fueling the climate crisis. We want something else, we want affordable housing inliveable cities that are not threatened by heatwaves or constant rain.

This scandalous summit in the Adlon shows: If we want something different, we have to do it ourselves, the Greens and politicians won’t help us!

And I believe we can do it: just imagine: If we organize ourselves as tenants and as a climate movement and get loud, then we can do something for our cities, for our planet

Then we can implement a social heating transition with 100% renewable energies, with affordable heating costs - and ideally with socialized energy and real estate companies that belong to everyone, so that we can finally put an end to profiteering
